Landlords contents insurance

Why do I need landlords contents insurance?
If you own a let property and you have contents within the property that belongs to you, there is potential for these items to be damaged and stolen. If this happened you would have to foot the bill to have them replaced so cover for these items is essential.

Landlords contents insurance covers carpets, curtains, furnishings and all household goods that belong to you, the landlord. It would not cover any of your tenants contents as this is their responsibility. They would be expected to take out their own policy if they wanted to cover their own contents. The definition of contents can be different between companies so it is advised not to proceed until this has been confirmed with your insurer.

Claims such as a leak from a pipe could cause water damage to a carpet which then needs replacement. Another example being a theft of the contents from the property following a break-in. Contents is normally quoted as an add-on to a buildings policy but in some cases it can be quoted separately (i.e. if the buildings is covered elsewhere).
